I finally got confirmation of my grades for the semester. I landed at an overall 3.335, which is the highest my GPA has been since high school or maybe my first semester of undergrad. at Wooster (circa 1999-2000), I don’t remember. But it doesn’t really matter. At least I have something to work with now. I have no idea what the landscape of my employment in the entertainment industry will be in the next 10 years, but anywhere you go that asks about school always asks about GPA, particularly that it’s above a 3.0. I don’t know what it is about that number, but large businesses (not so much for the smaller ones) are fixated on it. NBC, ABC, FOX, the cable networks, etc. all want to make sure that it’s at least a 3.0. Weird.
On to more interesting things:
Summer is here, and it looks like I’ll be taking that summer class that I registered for. I need to get some formal education and training in film. I get a lot of practical experience at work, but it’s nice to have some education to back it up. It’s the summer though, so it will only last for about 6 weeks. Which is fine, just in time to be free and clear for San Diego Comic Con 2008 in July.
I’m not sure who else will be coming from work, aside from the hosts of The Stack our comic book show. That’s the one I work on most of the time. So far I’ve done just about everything there is to do for it, aside from work “in-front” of the camera. Maybe I’ll do a promo….
If we don’t send an actual camera operator like last year (which could happen) then that means it falls to me to do it all. As much fun as that would be, it would be an insane amount of work. A) Because I would have to check and re-check the footage on an ongoing basis to make sure I’m not fucking it up, B) Because I can’t take pictures while I’m operating the camera, and C) Because when you operate a camera you’re pretty much stuck doing whatever the person you’re shooting wants to do. Enter power of Producer, Executive Producer at that. Maybe I should ask to be empowered as an Executive Producer for the duration of SDCC. I hear they get swords and jackets, and a private restroom, WITH complementary continental breakfast!
Of course it’s all null and moot if the office isn’t formally attending the event. Then it’s just me doing whatever the hell I want to do on my own free time. Check back in July to see how that one goes down.
Pictures descriptions are back: Shooting The Stack and baby’s first final cut HD project goes live.
