Well Marvel sure had a fine weekend. This from newsarama:
In its first-quarter earnings report, released this morning, Marvel announced that an Iron Man sequel and a Thor movie will be next on its feature-film slate.
Those movies, set for April 30, 2010, and June 4, 2010, respectively, will be followed in 2011 by The First Avenger: Captain America (May 4) and The Avengers (July).
It does indeed seem like there are some Avengers assembling… Iron Man is indeed killing at the box office which means full steam ahead, but Thor is up next and that’s a tougher sell. The script has been out there for close to a year now and reviews say that it is nothing short of amazing. But what we’ve learned from Iron Man is that the cast is key. Is there a Thor out there that can do what Robert Downey Jr. did for Tony Stark? (Perhaps Vincent D’Onofrio from Adventures in Babysitting?)
And what if Thor does tank? Does that make the Avengers movie a lame duck? Can Marvel move forward with a movie that has a box office winner like Iron Man paired up with box office losers like Thor and Hulk? (assuming that they stick with the original Avengers) Gotta give marvel credit for going all the way…
