I thought I’d do a special post “in-review” since this is my 250th consecutive post. Way back in August of last year I did have the goal to do a post every day. I try not to deviate from that schedule, but a few times I’ve made an exception. Like when blogger added their video feature (that never really worked for me, photobucket to the rescue).
A quick read-through of my early posts will definitely reveal that there’s been a learning curve for me in the blogosphere. I’ve tried to keep the blog in a traditional format, that’s some visual content (pictures/video) accompanied by a few paragraphs of what ever I feel like talking about each day. The hardest days have been the ones where nothing has happened. If you can believe it, not everyday is exciting, although since I moved (with my blog) to New York City, that’s changed a lot. Not to say that anything never happens in the mid-west.
It’s been about 8 months give or take a week since I started ranting, let’s snag a few excerpts from random posts over the last several months (accompanied by a selected picture representing each one):

In honor of my new camera arriving I have snapped a few pictures of my puppy Clark. At present he is staying at my parents and is happily bugging their dog Arthur. Secret talent: He can fit two tennis balls in his mouth at once. Clark is pictured in his chocolate suit, Arthur is in the yellow. I think that the tennis football is actually Arthur’s, however it squeaks when squeezed, which naturally makes it Clark’s (at least by Clark’s reasoning).

Arthur decided to go on a little adventure. Because Mom and Dad live out in the countryside, Arthur has some ramblin’ tendencies, and enjoys the frequent walkabout. Wherever he goes, rest assured he will get wet. Chalk it up to the hot weather, but today was a walkabout.

Today was another park day for me and the puppy. We grabbed a turkey breast sandwich from Subway and headed to Phelps Grove down the street. Clark had a few admirers on the way. He usually hangs his head out the window, so at a stop light another car pulled up and chatted about him with me till the light turned green. He’s quite the conversation magnet.

No Snack related mishaps this year. Just good food and good company. The guest list this year included:
Cousins Sam, Whitney, and baby Mason
Uncle Don & Aunt Susie, and cousins Luke & Eva
Uncle Mont & Aunt Kris, and cousins Anna & Emma
Aunt Mardi
Friends Mariesa & Issac, and kiddos Liam & Illena
Arthur (all around smell-bot)
Note: I only put Arthur on the list because he howled till we let him in.
Absent this year were:
Brother Andrew, sister Jenny (both in Jersey with cousins), cousin Sarah S. who had to work at the hospital this afternoon, and puppy Clark Kent who had to stay in the kennel during the festivities. He’s just way to happy for the pint-sized babies (props for behaving all night fuzzy little man). Now I owe him extra turkey treats.

Last night the festivities started off with the good stuff…presents for me. It was a bit cramped at Harunos, but the promise of gorging myself on great sushi made it all worth it. My parent’s got me a custom umbrella from their recent trip to New York. I looked it over to see if it held any secrets. Like a pull out sword or a projectile launcher. Apparently it was just a regular umbrella. When I first told my Mom that sushi would be my birthday dinner of choice she skeptically replied that maybe a more traditional dinner would be better. Perhaps something with roasted meat and potatoes. I laughed and said “no thanks”. After the meal was over I think Mom was glad that I chose something a little more unique.

In an unusual twist, Columbia had the best customer service I’ve had anywhere in a long time. Within about 30 minutes I had registered for classes, gotten my ID card, and set-up my online student services account. Just a few things that had me worried for the past week. With my trusty brand spanking new ID card in hand, I made for my brother’s apartment in what is colorfully known as “Spanish Harlem”.

Today was my first day skiing in at least 7 or eight years. It wasn’t too painful. With two other exceptions everybody else in our band of ne’er do wells spent the day snowboarding. The mountain was mostly geared for boarders, but had a few decent ski runs. The freestyle terrain runs were a lot better than the ones I remember from my Colorado trips. Snowboarding has grown a lot since we had our last family ski trip.

Today I finally made it by the Javits center to check out the 2008 New York International Auto Show. I’ve been to many a international convention, but never to an auto show. I was thoroughly impressed. My Uncle said that usually there isn’t anything that “new” being showcased, but since I’d never been before it was all new to me.
The show runs for about a week, and we’ve had a Next New Networks film crew since Tuesday of last week. We have a few car-based shows like Fast Lane Daily, and VOD Cars. I almost made it in as press, but since you have to submit requests for passes way in advance alas, twas not to be and I had to fork up the 14 bucks. If you haven’t tuned in to the blog before, I only started working at Next New Networks a few weeks, and boy have they been busy.
Pics: Fuzzy buddy Clark Kent, Clark & Me, silly Arthur is stuck, more turkey please, happy birthday to me, welcome to Columbia, ski trip with Andrew, Lindsey and the cousins, and NY Auto Show.
